CONTROLLER

What We Need You To Do

We’re looking for a Controller who’s more than just numbers—someone who brings financial rigor and collaborative flexibility. Reporting to the firm’s four Partners, you’ll:

• Provides fiscal leadership, vision, and guidance to the firm’s partners and staff. You will lead an accounting team of 2 people and be an integral part of the firm’s senior leadership team.

• Responsible for maintaining and development of fiscal control systems that respond to the evolving needs of projects and the firm’s business operations. 

• Responsible for oversight of project accounting processes, billing activities, accounts receivable, collections and accounts payable. 

• Responsible for accurate and timely financial reporting as well as budgeting and other financial forecasting needs of the firm.

• Maintains effective internal controls and oversight of the firm’s treasury, tax, accounting, fixed assets, benefit programs, insurance policies and ownership transition processes.

• Maintains compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and tax filings.

Who You Are

• You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

• You have 10+ years in financial leadership roles with a preference for experience in architecture or engineering or a similar professional service environment.

• You are highly organized and can think strategically.

• You have a proven track record of multi-tasking and meeting deadlines.

• You communicate effectively in writing and speech, with a talent for simplifying complex technical details.

• You facilitate open dialogue with a variety of contributors and effectively align the interests of multiple stakeholders.

• You have advanced knowledge of QuickBooks Enterprise and Excel.

• You're flexible: willing to design, iterate, and refine how things get done in accounting and finance to best suit GBA’s evolving needs.

Base salary range is $140,000 - $165,000 with a generous benefits package. Final salary decisions are determined by local market, a candidate’s skillset, years of experience, and internal equity. You will work Mondays, Thursdays and another day of your choice in the office and up to 2 days remote, if desired.

Eligible employees also receive an annual discretionary performance bonus dependent upon the firm’s profitability. Employees accrue 56 hours of sick/safe/personal PTO, 80 hours of vacation PTO, and GBA observes 8 paid holidays. GBA reimburses employees for their Washington State Architectural license fees and provides support for staff seeking licensure.
